John Myo Min Htay
“As part of my Industrial Attachment module, I am currently working on the Jurong Regional Line MRT Track project as a Drafter with a construction firm. My role involves preparing detailed technical drawings based on BCA-approved plans, ensuring that workers can carry out construction work safely, accurately, and in accordance with industry standards.
Using AutoCAD, I produce drawings for structural elements such as beams and slabs based on British Standards (BS) codes. These drawings help site workers clearly understand the construction requirements and minimise errors during the building process. I also document site progress through photographs, which support communication and coordination between clients, contractors, and project teams.
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned during my attachment is the importance of communication. Every day, I collaborate with contractors, architects, supervisors, and engineers, which has strengthened my ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
The knowledge I gained at NIM, particularly in AutoCAD, Reinforced Concrete Design, and Project Management, has been highly relevant to my work and has enabled me to contribute confidently in a real-world construction environment.”
