Anti-Fraud and Fraud Prevention Seminar: Raising Awareness Among Chinese Students

In today’s digital world, fraud has become increasingly sophisticated from frequent job scams to financial fraud, making it essential for individuals to stay vigilant against potential scams. We’ve successfully hosted an Anti-Scam & Crime Prevention Talk for our international students. Today, we organized an Anti-Fraud and Fraud Prevention Seminar, to help Chinese students enhance their awareness and ability to prevent fraud.

The seminar began with an insightful opening speech by Dr. Zhang Xuwei, President of NIM, and Mr. Lai Chao Ran, Secretary of the Embassy of P.R. China, Singapore.

The seminar was later briefed by a special guest from the Embassy of P.R.China, Singapore, Mr Wang Yong, who provided valuable insights into the latest fraud schemes targeting students, especially those studying abroad. Students learned about common scam tactics, including phone and online fraud, identity theft, and phishing attempts.

Throughout the session, real-life case studies were shared to illustrate the impact of fraud and how victims were targeted. The speaker emphasized the importance of staying vigilant, verifying suspicious messages, and knowing where to seek help when encountering potential scams.

The discussion included practical strategies such as:

  • Recognizing warning signs of scams
  • Avoiding sharing personal and financial information
  • Responding to fraudulent phone calls and messages
  • Reporting suspicious activities to the authorities

A Step Towards a Safer Community

The seminar successfully heightened awareness among attendees, empowering them with the tools and confidence to safeguard themselves against fraud.

Fraud prevention starts with education and vigilance. By fostering awareness, the NIM community, in collaboration with the Embassy of P.R. China,  continues to build a strong defense against fraud. Learn how to protect yourself from scams! Visit ScamShield’s I Can ACT Campaign for more tips.
