Course Objective

The degree promotes the critical application of theory to current and past practice with infants, young children and families. Integral to the degree is holistic knowledge and understanding of the ecology of child development in the context of the family, community and wider socio-political contexts. The degree remains embedded within a socio-cultural perspective towards children, families and their wider communities and in particular the interrelatedness of children’s development and learning as culturally and biologically determined.

Exploring strategies to support young children's mental health. Fostering socio-emotional well-being through developmentally appropriate practices.

Cognition and Learning Difficulties

Studying cognitive development and identifying learning difficulties. Implementing effective interventions and support strategies for children with learning challenges

DELIVERY ASSESSMENTS & AWARDS

Delivery
This course is wholly delivered in Singapore. Students will have access to local lecturers and resources provided by Canterbury Christ Church University. There will be a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and presentations. Students may also be given additional work to complete outside of scheduled classes. Resources and materials provided for students will include lecture notes and references for further reading in books, publication, articles and websites.
Assessment
100% coursework, it may include individual report, reflective assignment/log, presentation, individual assignment, group presentation, group discussion, portfolio, case study, and/or group project.
Award
Upon passing all required modules, a student will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts With Honours in Early Childhood Studies (Top-Up). The degree awarded will be the same as that awarded to on-campus students of the university.

Note: The course has not been accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), the effect of which is that the course will not be recognised as a professional qualification required for the registration of pre-school teachers in Singapore. This condition will be in effect until such time that the PEI provides evidence to SSG that the course has been officially accredited by ECDA.

Qualifications
  • Applicants should be at least 19 years of age at the time of application.
  • IELTS 6.0 or at least a C6 pass in English at GCE ‘O’ Levels
  • NIM’s International Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Education - Teaching & Leadership.
