Warm Welcome: A Heartfelt Orientation for Our Newest International Students

Today marked a meaningful milestone at Nanyang Institute of Management as we officially welcomed our newest batch of international students from India, Myanmar, Vietnam, and China. Though smaller in size, this May intake was filled with warmth, enthusiasm, and strong community spirit.

The orientation commenced with a detailed briefing by our Student Services team, led by Miss Qurratu and Miss Farrina, who shared vital information and tips tailored to help our international students adjust smoothly to life at NIM. Their session was followed by a special appearance from Mr. Raymond, Vice President of NIM, who emphasised the importance of understanding and abiding by the school’s rules and guidelines. He also took the opportunity to introduce the Deans of the respective faculties, setting the tone for a student-first, academically enriching journey ahead.

A highlight of the afternoon was the Student Excellence Award presentation, where Ta Trinh Duc Quan and Summit, students from the Certificate of Foundation Studies, were recognised for his outstanding performance. Their achievement serves as both an inspiration and a benchmark for the new cohort.

Miss Thong, Director of the Career Services Centre, took the stage to share valuable insights on post-graduation pathways and the career progression students can look forward to. Her session offered students a clearer vision of the opportunities that await them beyond the classroom. Next, Mr. Nathan Neo, Operations Manager, addressed the importance of campus safety. With a strong commitment to student well-being, he guided everyone through essential emergency procedures, ensuring that every student knows how to respond confidently and calmly in any situation.

The Student Council then introduced themselves and started the second half of the orientation, bringing out the energy and excitement. Things kicked off with a light-hearted icebreaker, where students from each country introduced themselves — adding a personal and cultural touch to the session.

Laughter echoed through the room during the “Opposite Direction” game, where students had to navigate movements in reverse — a fun challenge that sparked joy and broke the ice among attendees.

The second game of the day, “The Puzzle Lockdown Challenge” — a collaborative game designed to test communication, teamwork, and linguistic agility. Teams worked together to solve a fragmented puzzle, with two members ‘locked’ at fixed locations while the rest scouted for missing pieces. To unlock hints, students had to answer trivia questions about NIM, adding an educational twist to the fun.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony led by Moses, President of the Student Council, alongside council members Rachel Emerson and Tu Wen Jie, who celebrated the winners and their spirit of sportsmanship.

As the day came to a close, what lingered was not just the information shared or the games played, but the bonds formed and the sense of belonging ignited. Here’s to a successful start and a fulfilling journey ahead for our new students!
