Strengthening Ties: The 2024 China-ASEAN English Education Academic Seminar

Liupanshui Normal University became a hub of international collaboration as it hosted the “China-ASEAN English Education Academic Seminar,” co-organised by NIM, a significant event under the 2024 China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week. This seminar brought together educators and scholars from across the ASEAN region and China, highlighting the pivotal role of English education in fostering cross-cultural exchanges and academic cooperation. 

In total, experts from 24 universities and numerous primary and secondary schools participated, reflecting a robust commitment to enhancing English education across borders. NIM’s Dean of School of Language, Ms Leonisa Martinez, had the opportunity to co-organised and represent Nanyang Institute of Management. 

A Warm Welcome and Inspiring Words

The seminar kicked off with an opening speech from President Cheng Xuquan, who warmly welcomed the attendees. He emphasized the geographical and cultural proximity of China and ASEAN nations, noting how English serves as a crucial bridge for enhancing mutual understanding and integration into the global community. President Cheng expressed his belief that this seminar would provide invaluable learning opportunities for both teachers and students, ultimately elevating the standards of English education at the university.

One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was the signing of memorandums of understanding (MOU) between Liupanshui Normal University and several esteemed foreign institutions, which included Nanyang Institute of Management.

These agreements mark a significant step in establishing formal partnerships aimed at promoting educational collaboration and exchange programs. Ms Leonisa expressed her optimism and delivered a speech on how AI can play a transformative role in education in this era of technological advancement.

Liupanshui Normal University organised a campus tour for the esteemed guests, highlighting its facilities, academic departments, and student engagement areas. The tour provided a deeper insight into the university’s academic environment, strengthening the relationship between NIM and the university as they look ahead to future joint ventures.
