Invitation Extended to the President of Nanyang Institute of Management at the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference

On January 22, 2024, during the “Two Sessions” in Shanxi, China, 20 overseas Chinese representatives were invited to participate in the 13th Second Session of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for the first time. This event marked a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and communication. Dr. Zhang Xuwei, the CEO and President of Nanyang Institute of Management, was among the distinguished guests invited to contribute to the discussions.

Originally from Dingxiang, Shanxi, Dr. Zhang Xuwei has consistently demonstrated concern for the development of Shanxi, China. In a recent interview, he articulated his perspective on the need for talents who comprehend the international community, emphasizing the role of educational and cultural exchanges. According to Zhang Xuwei, the President of the Nanyang School of Management in Singapore, such exchanges are pivotal for attracting outstanding scholars and students from overseas and encouraging Shanxi’s universities and students to engage globally.

Dr. Zhang Xuwei proposed several key suggestions aimed at promoting the internationalization of education and culture in Shanxi and undertaking new cultural missions:

  1. Attracting Investment and Talent First:

In the development of Shanxi in the new era, Dr. Zhang emphasized placing talent exchange and cultivation at the forefront. Leveraging local advantages, efforts will be made to further promote educational exchanges between Shanxi and overseas institutions. The goal is to encourage more children from Shanxi to explore the world and actively support collaborative educational programs and study abroad initiatives in Shanxi’s higher education institutions.

  1. Facilitating the Entry of Overseas Talent into Shanxi:

Dr. Zhang proposes activities such as cultural exchanges, ancestral heritage tours, and intellectual development initiatives to bring overseas talents into Shanxi. The aim is to transform the perception of Shanxi from “people say Shanxi has beautiful scenery” to “everyone loves the beautiful scenery of Shanxi.”

  1. Promoting the Spread of Shanxi Culture Worldwide:

The third suggestion involves spreading the culture of the Three Jin (Shanxi) region to the world. This can be achieved by organizing various forums and events abroad to increase the understanding of Shanxi among overseas Chinese and international friends. The goal is to have more overseas Chinese become informal ambassadors in disseminating the culture of the Three Jin region.

During the meeting, Dr. Zhang Xuwei, representing the Nanyang Institute of Management, expressed, “We sincerely look forward to the continuous improvement of Shanxi’s reform and opening-up. We hope for stronger exchanges between China’s Shanxi and Singapore. We anticipate that the communication and collaboration between Shanxi and Singapore will further enhance.”
