SAST ADAD: A Unique Learning Experience – Visit to Podcast Studio Singapore

As part of our integrated learning, NIM’s School of Arts, Science & Technology, Advanced Diploma in Arts and Design (SAST ADAD), students were given the opportunity to step into the world of media production with a visit to a podcast studio in Singapore. The highlight of the trip was a rare chance for a student to interview their lecturer, Mr. Ray in a professional podcast setting held at Poddster.

Poddster is Singapore’s first dedicated podcast studio for rent, committed to making high-quality podcasting more accessible for content creators, entrepreneurs, and brands. Poddster offers a selection of beautifully designed, fully equipped studios that cater to both seasoned podcasters and newcomers.

We were kindly hosted by Ben Draycott-Jones, Head of Operations – APAC at Poddster. Before witnessing a live podcast recording, the students were introduced to key industry rules and practical tips, setting the stage for a more meaningful and immersive learning experience. From soundproofing techniques to audio editing software, the students gained hands-on exposure to the technology that powers modern podcasting.

This enriching experience offered them valuable insights into the dynamic world of podcasting.

Student Interviews Lecturer: A Role Reversal

In a unique twist, selected students had the opportunity to do the podcast, in a live podcast-style session. One student got to interview Mr. Ray covers the topic of Music and another pair of students covers the topic of fashion and other areas they were passionate about.

This role reversal allowed students to see their instructor in a different light while practicing their interviewing and critical thinking skills.

SAST ADAD’s visit to the podcast studio was more than just a field trip—it was an immersive learning experience that blended technology, media, and education. By stepping into the interviewer’s seat, students not only deepened their understanding of their lecturer’s expertise but also gained confidence in articulating ideas—a vital skill for future data professionals.

Such innovative initiatives highlight SAST ADAD’s commitment to providing holistic, industry-relevant education, preparing students for the dynamic demands of the digital age.

A big thank you Poddster once again, for giving our students this opportunity for a podcast live session! We’re also grateful to Mr. Ray and Ms. Thong for making this meaningful excursion possible and expanding the learning experience beyond the classroom.
