NIM School of Engineering Wins School Green Award for Sustainability Efforts

A heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated students from NIM’s School of Engineering and the Director of Career Service Centre/Assistant Dean, Ms. Thong, for their exceptional commitment to advancing sustainability goals. Their relentless efforts have led to a proud achievement—the prestigious School Green Award from the Singapore Environment Council.

The project assessed various environmental factors within the school, including electricity and water usage, food wastage in canteens, recycling facilities, and the extent of green spaces on campus. This year, students and representatives alike contributed significantly to NIM’s green transformation, with initiatives from NIM’s Green Dreams Poster Competition and sustainable initiatives that helped secure this recognition.

The Green Dream Poster Competition created a buzz and attracted an impressive participation of 30 students.

Hydroponically grown vegetables are grown in the school compound to purify the air and offer staff/students vegetables to eat.

Further, in June 2024, energy-efficient LED lighting was installed in areas like lifts and common spaces, contributing to notable reductions in both water and electricity usage. Classrooms have also been thoughtfully designed to make the best use of natural lighting.

As we celebrate this accomplishment, let’s continue our commitment to sustainability and aim for another award next year!
