NIM’s First-Ever “Clean and Win!” Brings the Community Together at Gardens by the Bay
Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM) held its first “Clean and Win!” community cleanup challenge at Gardens by the Bay, bringing together enthusiastic teams of students, lecturers, and staff for an afternoon of purpose, fun, and friendly competition.
Running from 3pm to 5pm, the event transformed a sunny Wednesday into a meaningful experience where participants bonded over sustainability, teamwork, and a shared goal—to make one of Singapore’s most iconic public spaces even cleaner.
Participants gathered at our lobby, where each group of ten received their team tag, took photos, and set off for their designated destination. Beyond fulfilling our social responsibilities, the event also introduced a fun, fast-paced element that encouraged teams to move quickly and make the most of the experience.
Once the challenge kicked off, teams dispersed across designated cleanup zones in Gardens by the Bay. Armed with gloves, tongs, and biodegradable trash bags, teams worked efficiently to collect litter, sort recyclables, and ensure safety at all times.
Once the time was up, teams returned to the assembly point to weigh and tally their collected waste. Points were awarded based on the total weight, punctuality, and teamwork observed on the ground.

Cheers erupted as winners celebrated their achievement, showing off their well-earned prizes and snapping group photos.
Dr. Zhang Xuwei, NIM President, thanked everyone for stepping up despite the humid weather, noting that while clearing rubbish is simple, the willingness to do it shows heart. He reminded students that many people work quietly behind the scenes to keep our environment clean, and their efforts deserve appreciation. He encouraged students to stay true to themselves and to remember those who make their lives better — the everyday contributions that are often overlooked.
Dr. Zhang also acknowledged the courage it takes for students to leave their home country to study at NIM. He affirmed that NIM will always welcome them, making the campus feel as homely and supportive as possible, like one family.
The 2025 NIM Clean and Win was a resounding success, thanks to the dedication of the organising committee, the supportive staff volunteers, and every participant who gave their time and energy.
As sunset fell over Gardens by the Bay, one thing was clear: this was more than just an event—it was a moment of pride, unity, and shared purpose for the NIM community.
