Immersive Industry Exposure: SOTH Students Explore Career Pathways at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

Students from the School of Tourism & Hospitality (SOTH) at Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM) were recently given the invaluable opportunity to explore real-world career pathways through an exclusive industry visit to Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.

Mr. Victor, our School of Tourism & Hospitality Lecturer, opened the visit with a warm introduction, bridging our students with the team from Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, and setting the tone for a meaningful industry engagement.

The session began with a warm welcome from the hotel’s management team, who introduced students to the brand’s bespoke heritage, service philosophy, and commitment to luxury hospitality excellence. This opening sharing set the tone for a meaningful and immersive learning experience for the students of NIM.

A Glimpse into Luxury at Its Finest

Students were then brought on a guided tour of two of the hotel’s most luxurious and prestigious suites. From the meticulous interior design details to the personalised guest amenities and panoramic views, the visit offered students a deeper understanding of the standards expected in ultra-luxury hospitality.

The tour continued through several of the hotel’s signature restaurants, where students were introduced to the distinct dining concepts housed within the property. They gained insights into front office operations, and food & beverage management all crucial components of a world-class hotel operation.

More importantly, students had the opportunity to explore potential internships and career pathways directly with industry professionals managing the F&B outlets and Front Office Manager from Mandarin Oriental through Q&A sessions.

The industry engagement reflects NIM’s commitment to providing students with experiential learning and meaningful exposure to Singapore’s hospitality landscape. By stepping into one of the city’s most iconic luxury hotels, students were able to visualise their future roles and better understand the standards required to thrive in a competitive global industry.

At NIM, hospitality education goes beyond theory, it connects students to real opportunities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the team at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, for hosting our students at NIM and sharing invaluable insights, creating an unforgettable learning experience. Dr. Johnson, NIM Assistant Vice President, Academics & Dean of School of Tourism and Hospitality, commemorated the occasion with a ceremonial gift to Ms. Tay and Ms. Sim, marking a meaningful conclusion to the day’s engagement alongside Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.
