Nanyang Institute of Management Students Explore SF International Logistics Center on Educational Field Trip

April 2, 2024, Singapore – In a unique blend of academic learning and practical exposure, students from Nanyang Institute of Management embarked on an educational field trip to the SF International Logistics Center this Tuesday.

SF International Logistics Center is at the heart of SF International’s operations, a global frontrunner in providing cross-border logistics and supply chain solutions. Established in 1993 in Shunde, Guangdong, China, the company has since grown into a comprehensive service network spanning over 200 countries and regions. SF International caters to a diverse clientele, including manufacturers, traders, e-commerce merchants, and consumers, offering services like transportation, customs clearance, and distribution to meet various customer needs.

Under the guidance of their instructors, 29 students arrived at the SF distribution center at 10a.m. They were split into two groups to delve deeper into the workings of the center.

Led by Senior Operations Management Executive Mr. Matthias Wang, the first group explored the sorting area, gaining insights into the parcel receiving and sorting process, as well as handling special scenarios involving high-value parcels, dangerous goods, and customer-specific requests.

Concurrently, the second group attended a presentation by Mr. Daryl Ng from the Business Development department. They learned about SF’s operational strategies, including service expansion and business growth through enlarging the logistics fleet and forming partnerships with other service providers.

Afterward, The two groups swapped routes to ensure a well-rounded understanding of SF’s operational dynamics.

Participants in this visit hailed from various specializations at Nanyang Institute of Management, including School of Business, School of Engineering and School of Logistics. This field trip not only enriched their understanding of the logistics industry but also provided them with a hands-on experience of the intricacies and challenges involved in logistics management, which is crucial for their future career prospects.

The visit to SF International Logistics Center is a key component of Nanyang Institute of Management’s learning curriculum. By integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world operations, we aim to offer our students a holistic educational experience.
