Leadership Workshop Recap: Empowering the Next Generation of Student Council Members
In a world that constantly demands initiative, collaboration, and integrity, leadership is no longer reserved for those with formal titles. With this recent Leadership Workshop led by Dr. Sujata Tiwari, NIM Mentor-In-Residence and Founder of Against All Odds Pte. Ltd., Student Council members, along with active students, gathered for an engaging 45-minute session designed to equip them with real-world leadership mindsets and skills- ones that extend far beyond the classroom.
The session began with a warm welcome and icebreaker to set the tone for open sharing and peer connection. Participants were then challenged with mini exercises and group discussions, sparking meaningful conversations where key truths about themselves and their peers were revealed.
Four essential leadership traits were introduced:
- Self-awareness – Knowing your strengths and weaknesses.
- Communication – Active listening and clear expression.
- Accountability – Owning your actions and results.
- Empathy – Understanding and valuing others’ perspectives.
Through self-assessment and peer sharing, students reflected on their strengths and areas to grow.
Small group discussions tackled real-life leadership scenarios, encouraging critical thinking and teamwork. From motivating unengaged members to resolving conflicts, students applied the traits they had learned in just a minute.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Sujata for sharing her valuable leadership insights, and to Ms. Thong, Dean of the School of Engineering and Director of Career Services, for her support and encouragement throughout the session.
The key takeaway?
Leadership begins with self-awareness and grows through action. Every student has the power to lead with purpose.
