Celebrating the Festival of Lights with Joy and Culture

Students and faculty members of Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM) came together today to celebrate Deepavali with a beautiful blend of color, culture, and community spirit. Our Student Council definitely deserves a round of applause for making this Deepavali celebration sparkle!

The venue came alive with traditional decorations, and the cheerful laughter of students and faculty alike.

Among the day’s highlights was the ever-popular henna painting booth, which drew a lively crowd eager to sport traditional designs. proof that some traditions never go out of style. The student councils got creative with intricate designs that symbolised good fortune and happiness.

The aroma of Indian sweets and snacks filled the air, allowing everyone to savour traditional treats while learning about their cultural significance.

Adding on to the festive energy, the Student Council’s leaders and members, led a special cultural dance session, teaching participants graceful moves inspired by traditional Indian dances. Their enthusiasm and teamwork created a lively atmosphere, bringing everyone together through rhythm and movement.

Muthuraj Akshith, student of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS MBA), took the stage to share the meaning behind Deepavali, a festival that celebrates the victory of light over darkness and the spirit of renewal during the full moon. He also explained that the festival typically falls between late October and early November, when families come together to light lamps, exchange sweets, and spread joy.

The Deepavali celebration served not only as a fun campus event but also as a meaningful reminder of NIM’s diverse and inclusive community, one that values cultural diversity, learning, and togetherness.

As the lights shimmered and music filled the air, it was clear that the spirit of Diwali symbolised the triumph of light that lit up the vibe at NIM.
