‘Art’ Close and Personal with visual artist Andy Yang and Artist & Curator Bridget Tay

On this day, Ms. Thong, the Assistant Dean from the School of Engineering,  took her students on an exciting adventure to The Private Museum at Upper Wilkie, Singapore. The goal? To inspire them through the world of art and foster a deeper appreciation for art & creativity in their academic lives.

Discovering Inspiration with Visual Artist, Andy Yang

During the guided tour, students learned about the historical significance of the exhibits. From music, flowers to tea, each piece told a story that resonated with the themes explored in their courses. The knowledgeable guides provided in-depth insights, encouraging students to ask questions and engage with the material. This interaction not only deepened their understanding but also sparked meaningful discussions among peers.

One key takeaway was the understanding that art is subjective; each piece evoked different interpretations based on individual perspectives. This realization encouraged students to think critically about their own experiences and how they relate to the artwork around them.

The students then delved into Andy’s “flower-themed series”

Our Advanced Diploma in arts and design programe is nothing short of focusing on delivering industry-relevant experience for our students. Ms. Thong’s initiative to bring her students to The Private Museum exemplifies the powerful impact of art in education. By encouraging students to explore and interpret art personally, they are not only learning about creativity but also developing critical thinking skills that will benefit them in their studies and beyond.
