A Fulfilling Conclusion to a Remarkable Training Program on Urban Planning with Vietnamese Delegates
The Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM) had the immense honour of hosting an enriching Training Program on Urban Planning, Development, and Local Government Management for delegates from Vietnam from 11 December to 20 December. This program, spearheaded by our School of Engineering faculty, was a testament to the collaborative spirit and shared vision for sustainable urban development.
The week-long program was meticulously designed to address critical areas in urban planning and development. Our esteemed lecturers delivered engaging sessions on diverse topics, including:
Management of Local Government in Urban Planning
Planning and Construction Management in a Global Context
Participants gained insights into navigating cross-cultural communication and compliance with international practices, addressing risk management, resource allocation, and sustainability in construction projects.
To complement the lectures, participants embarked on educational field trips to iconic locations in Singapore:
Singapore City Gallery: A journey through Singapore’s transformation from a young nation in the 1960s to one of Asia’s most livable cities, highlighting urban planning challenges and solutions.
- Marina Barrage: An exploration of sustainability and water resource management.
- Gardens by the Bay: Showcasing innovations in energy, climate, and ecosystem balance.
- Community-Friendly Neighborhoods: Practical lessons on how Singapore creates livable environments catering to the elderly and vulnerable, with the preservation of our heritage in mind.
The program concluded on a high note with the presentation of awards and certificates of attendance to the delegates. This moment of recognition celebrated their active participation and commitment to learning. Adding to the festivities, NIM proudly announced a scholarship initiative for residents of Lạng Sơn Province, further cementing our dedication to fostering international collaboration and development.
The closing ceremony featured heartfelt speeches from Ms Thong, Assistant Dean of School of Engineering, Mr Raymond Khoo, Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions, as well as Mr Luong Trong Quynh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee. Their words resonated with gratitude, inspiration, and the promise of continued partnership.

This training program marked a significant milestone in our journey of empowering leaders and fostering international cooperation. It was a fulfilling experience for both the delegates and the NIM community, leaving behind a legacy of shared knowledge, cultural exchange, and mutual respect.
