Course Objective
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic understanding of child development theories when working with children;
- Provide a warm, caring and responsive relationship in classroom management and supervision of children;
- Assist in preparing and be involved in carrying out simple activities and learning experiences with children;
- Gain knowledge on children’s health and nutritional requirements;
- Carry out routine care, rituals and transitions; and
- Appreciate their roles and responsibilities as a caregiver.

DELIVERY ASSESSMENTS & AWARDS
Delivery
This course is wholly delivered in Singapore. Students will have access to local lecturers and resources provided by Nanyang Institute of Management.
Students in their learning will go through different modes of instruction. These include classroom lectures using PowerPoint slides, lecture handouts, group discussions and presentations, individual reflections, role play, classroom exploration, inquiry and pedagogical exercises, and the use of information communication technologies.
Assessment
Students will be assessed based on case study, role play, projects, written report and essay, presentation, and practicum.
Award
Upon successful completion, trainees will be awarded the Fundamentals Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education by Nanyang Institute of Management.

Qualifications
- Applicants should be at least 15 years of age at the time of application
- Completed at least Secondary 2 Education
Note: There must be supporting documents for the 8 years of formal education where medium of instruction is to be in English.
*Trainees who are not able to produce the supporting documents will be required to take the NIM’s English Proficiency Placement test and/or do a short interview.
