“A few years ago, due to the situation in my home country of Myanmar, I had to find another way to continue my education. I chose to study Tourism and Hospitality Management because I genuinely enjoy interacting with people.

 

I did an Advanced Diploma in NIM, but after that, instead of starting my career, I chose to continue my education through this path because I can achieve a UK bachelor’s degree in a shorter time without relocating. I also found out that this is a reputable public university in England with impressive graduate employment outcomes.

The lecturers take time to explain concepts and share their industry experience, which helps me understand how theories are applied in real life. My classmates are from different countries which created a diverse learning
environment. This made me more confident in engaging people from diverse backgrounds. As a Student Council member, I was also able to shape my leadership skills by organizing various student activities and events.

Learning industry-standard software helped me understand how hotel and travel reservations are managed in a professional environment. I was trained to operate airlines ticketing
software and Global Distribution System (GDS), a reservation system widely used by hotels and travel companies such as MBS and Shangri-La Singapore. My internship at Shangri-La
Singapore was also vital in my development, as I had to interact with international guests and work with various departments.”
