SOTH Students Meet Luxury Hospitality

Students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality (SOTH) recently embarked on an immersive field trip to Sofitel Sentosa Singapore and Raffles Sentosa Resort Singapore, gaining valuable exposure to the inner workings of luxury hospitality.

Mr. Victor, our School of Tourism & Hospitality lecturer, who meticulously planned the entire journey, opened the visit with a warm introduction, bridging our students with the team at Sofitel Sentosa Singapore and Raffles Sentosa Resort Singapore. The visit then began with a detailed sharing session by Mr. Michael Parson, Director of Commercial & Strategy, Mr. Henry Ng, Cluster Director of Sales, and Mr. Desmond Foo, Sales Manager, who introduced students to the hotel’s positioning, luxurious facilities, and service philosophy. Through their insights, students better understood how different departments work together to deliver a seamless guest experience and the strategies for attracting and retaining guests in today’s competitive hospitality landscape.

One of the highlights of the trip was an exclusive tour of the villa, during which students experienced firsthand the level of attention to detail that goes into creating a premium stay for guests. From the thoughtfully designed interiors to the personalised services offered, the tour provided a deeper appreciation of what defines luxury in today’s hospitality industry.

Beyond the facilities, the visit also gave students a clearer perspective on potential career pathways within the sector. Interacting directly with industry professionals allowed them to ask questions, gain practical insights, and better connect their academic learning to real-world applications.

This field trip served as a meaningful extension of the classroom, reinforcing key concepts while inspiring students to envision their future in the hospitality industry.

The School extends its sincere appreciation to the team at Sofitel Sentosa Singapore and Raffles Sentosa Resort Singapore for their warm hospitality and for hosting such a meaningful learning experience. Their generosity in sharing knowledge and opening their doors to our students made the visit both insightful and memorable.

To commemorate the occasion, Mr. Saša Zurak, Assistant Dean of Tourism and Hospitality, presented a ceremonial gift to the team at Sofitel Sentosa Singapore and Raffles Sentosa Resort Singapore as a token of appreciation for their time, support, and contribution to student learning.
