Visit by editors of Cengage Learning
Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM) welcomed two esteemed guests from the renowned Cengage Group, Chong Jin, Associate Development Editor, and Dawne Law, Assistant Editor, to our campus today. Their visit, aimed at observing the practical application of their textbooks in our classrooms, marks a significant step towards enriching our English language curriculum.
During their time here, Chong Jin and Dawne joined our elementary English class (Certificate of General English) to experience firsthand how our dedicated teachers utilise their textbooks. This practical insight into classroom dynamics and teaching methodologies provided valuable feedback for their textbook development process.
One of the most notable aspects of their visit was witnessing the integration of students’ diverse backgrounds into the lesson plans. Our teachers skillfully present the content of these textbooks to make the learning experience more relatable and engaging for students. This approach enriches the student’s understanding of the English language and fosters a more inclusive and culturally aware classroom environment.
They each shared a word of advice to students learning any new language. Chong Jin encouraged students to explore and experience the world through the language they are learning. Similarly, Dawne highlighted the importance of creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, an essential part of the learning process.
The insights they gained from this visit are invaluable. Not only do they contribute to the enhancement of English textbook content, but they also reaffirm the effectiveness of our teaching methods at NIM.
Reflecting on today’s enriching experience, we are grateful for the opportunity to have Chong Jin and Dawne. Their visit has provided constructive feedback and opened avenues for classroom teaching and to elevate our educational standards further.
