Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • gain knowledge of how children learn and develop
  • establish effective pedagogical and practice skills in early childhood education
  • develop basic oral and written English Language skills for practice in the early childhood setting
  • understand the issues and challenges of the early childhood professional


Course Structure

This course comprises 900 hours of theory and 300 hours of classroom practices. The duration of the course is 18 months full-time.

The maximum allowed period for a student to complete this course is 3 years which takes effect from the commencement date of the course. Students who fail to complete the course within the stipulated period will not be entitled to any recourse or refund. For refund, please refer to the ‘Student’s Contract’. The teacher-student ratio is 1:30.


Mode of Delivery

Students in their learning will go through different modes of instruction. These include classroom lectures using powerpoint slides, lecture handouts, group discussions and presentations, individual reflections, role play, classroom exploration, inquiry and pedagogical exercises, and the use of information communication technologies.

NIM shall notify the student within three (3) working days upon knowledge of any of the following:

i. It does not commence the Course on the Course Commencement Date; or
ii.It terminates the Course before the Course Commencement Date.
NIM shall inform the student in writing of alternative study arrangements (if any).

NIM shall refund student according to the Refund Policy in the Standard PEI-Student Contract.
The waiting period for the commencement of course is 2 to 4 months depending on the course applied for.


Entry Requirements

Candidates must have minimum of 10 years of formal education, including at least C6 in GCE ‘O’ Chinese Language.
For foreign qualification in Chinese, candidates must have completed 10 years of formal education in Chinese Language (CL) and passed state exam in 5 different subjects including acceptable equivalent C6 in GCE ‘O’ level CL. 

Assessment & Awards

The assessment comprises of coursework and written examination. The coursework may include written essay, reflective journals, report writing, compilation of resource file, case study, presentation and group projects etc.

Upon successful completion of all modules, the student will be awarded the International Diploma of Teaching in Early Childhood Education (Mandarin) by Nanyang Institute of Management.
